Training for New Constables
Successful candidates will be hired as a Recruit Constable; those with previous police experience will be considered on an individual basis.
Recruit Constables attend the Emil V. Kolb Centre for Police Excellence, located at 180 Derry Road East in the City of Mississauga, where they receive two and a half (2 ½) weeks of training prior to attending the Ontario Police College (OPC) located in Aylmer, Ontario .
At OPC Recruit Constables must successfully complete the twelve (12) week OPC Basic Constable Training Course. Recruit Constables receive an additional five (5) weeks training at the Emil V. Kolb Centre for Police Excellence.
Upon graduation a 12 month probationary period will commence. Recruit Constables will be assigned to a Field Training Officer for approximately three (3) months to complete the final stages of the training. During this time, suitability as a police officer will be regularly assessed.
The Ontario Police College tuition fee is $11,065.00 and is the responsibility of the Recruit Constable.
Training for New Cadets
Recruit Cadets attend the Emil V. Kolb Centre for Police Excellence, located at 180 Derry Road East in the City of Mississauga, where they will receive five (5) weeks of training prior to commencing their duties within the Organization.
All Cadets must enter into a thirty (30) month contract and are placed on a six (6) month probation period commencing upon their employment. They are required to participate in Quarterly training and must successfully complete all components of their training. First Aid and CPR qualifications must remain current. Cadets are assigned to different departments and may be required to work shift work.
The suitability to be promoted to the rank of Recruit Constable will be assessed on an ongoing basis.
