Crime of the Week - Brampton

Release #: 2008 - 16b

SUSPICIOUS SCHOOL FIRE

A popular Brampton public school was destroyed by fire, and the investigators from 22 Division are seeking the public’s assistance in providing information that may lead them to the persons responsible for this crime.

On Thursday July 4, 2008 at around 4:40 in the afternoon, Brampton Fire Services and Peel Regional Police responded to a fire at the Peel Adventist School on McMurchy Avenue, south of Queen Street. The school was fully engulfed in flames, resulting in the damage being estimated at over 1.5 million dollars.

Investigators believe that the fire may have started in a garbage bin at the rear of the school, however that cannot be confirmed. As a result of this devastating fire, many local students will be forced to attend another institution for education purposes.

The officers investigating this crime are urging members of the public to call Crime Stoppers if you have any information on who may be either directly or indirectly involved in the fire.
