PERF Leadership Award
The Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) is a membership association of progressive police executives. The annual PERF Leadership Award goes to an individual who exemplifies the highest principles and standards of a true leader in policing. The award recognizes innovators whose efforts serve as a model to the law enforcement community, and whose vision of policing can be applied on a wide scale.
At the PERF Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida, April 19 to 22, 1995, that year's PERF Leadership Award was presented to Chief Robert F. Lunney of Peel Regional Police.
"Chief Lunney has shown a consistent, career-long interest in improving policing by effectively using new technology, working side-by-side with community residents and dealing with tough issues," remarked PERF President and NYPD Commissioner, William Bratton. "He has proven himself to be a true leader in policing."
Chief Lunney has been the principal proponent of the accreditation movement in Canada, and is responsible either directly or indirectly for the accreditation of five Canadian police services through the end of 1994, including Edmonton, Winnipeg and the Peel Regional Police.
